Colby J. Ullmann

This introduction aims to showcase my abilities and potential as a candidate for higher education and hopefully a future leader. As I begin the college application process, I would like to highlight my strengths, interests, passions, and family background, which have all shaped my personality and character.

What interests me…

I’ve always been drawn to the water, with many of my outdoor interests having a close connection to the lake or ocean. Whether it was achieving my PADI scuba certification at 10 years old, or working as dock staff and sailing instructor for the local state park, I’ve always felt at home there.

What drives me…

As a three-sport (hockey, track & field, golf) student athlete, my interests go beyond the classroom or ice rink. Competition and my physical development are something that has been a large part of my childhood. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience team and individual sports, many of which have provided lifelong friendships. The loyalty, growth, and often humbling situations have been an incredible opportunity.

What inspires me…

I’ve always been interested in machines and like to think of myself as mechanically minded. From my first air show, to Legos, or even toy drones, I’ve been particularly drawn to anything that flies. I’m interested in studying aeronautics or engineering in college, and possibly having an opportunity to eventually become a pilot. I’ve also been lucky to have such a supportive and loving family that will always inspire me to reach for my dreams.

What moves me…

Most people don’t know how much music has been a part of my life and an opportunity to be creative. For as long as I can remember everything looked like a guitar or drums, and eventually became a love of playing, listening, or understanding how music is made.
